Behind The Scenes: How Movement Without Borders Came to Life

Updated: Aug 15, 2025

When I first had the idea for Movement Without Borders, I didn't have a name, logo, or even a clear plan I wanted to execute-just a dream: I want more people to be able to dance without judgement.

From that moment, my notes app started filling up with messy sketches, late-night brainstorms, and a lot of goals. I wanted this project to be more than just a website. I want it to be a spaces where stories would thrive-stories of dancers who broke/break barriers, challenge society's expectations, and redefine what it means to dance.

Finding the Voice of the Project

The first challenge I came across was figuring out how to share these stories in a way that felt real and inviting. I spent days deciding on fonts, formats, and the overall "feel" of the site. (I changed the color palette maybe three times before settling on one).

I also created an instagram account to start giving people small sneak peaks of what was coming (@movement_without_borders). I needed a way to get the word out more and hoped that Instagram would be the way to go.

The First Post and Beyond

The first post on Instagram was just an introductory post and to notify others that the website was now live-only a tiny step but still a milestone for me.

It is truly nerve-wracking to put something new out into the world not knowing how people were going to take it, but seeing it officially exist makes it all worth it.

Interviews Coming Soon

Currently, I'm waiting to hear back from some incredible people who have had major contributions to the dance world. These conversations will be the heart of the project which is why I can't wait to share them with you.

Why This Matters

This project isn't just abotu showcasing talent-it's about expanding who gets to be seen as a dancer. Dance is for everyone, and the more stories we help share, the more we can challenge the outdated ideas of who "belongs" in the dance world.

This is just the beginning. If you're reading this, you're part of the first audience to witness the journey of Movement Without Borders. I hope you stick around for everything that's coming next. Stay tuned for the first interview coming soon. (And if you know a dancer with a unique story, feel free to reach out! Let's make this community as big and diverse as it deserves to be.
