Breaking Stereotypes: Boys in Ballet

A lot of the time, when people think of male dancers in styles like ballet, they envision them there simply for the purpose of making the female look better or assist her with tricks. However, the amount of work that they put into it to do just as much oftentimes goes unnoticed.

Dance in general has many physical and mental benefits, as mentioned in previous posts, but it can be very physically and emotionally draining. Males are frequently told to hold their emotions together, even though it is unhealthy. There should be more attention placed on how much they really do, especially in the dance world.

Male dancers also challenge the perception of dance as exclusively feminine. Many steps and combinations in ballet are more delicate, but more recently male dancers have been including stronger and sharper moments in performances.
